Unsound Sleep

What Causes Unsound Sleep?

Unsound sleep can have various causes, ranging in severity from 'troubling' to 'very serious'.  Finding the true cause means ruling out or confirming each possibility – in other words, diagnosis.

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • understand what's happening to your body
  • see your health summarized and in detail
  • learn what you should be doing right now

Diagnosis is usually a complex process due to the sheer number of possible causes and related symptoms.  In order to diagnose unsound sleep, we could:

  • Research the topic
  • Find a doctor with the time
  • Use a diagnostic computer system.
The process is the same, whichever method is used.

Step 1: List all Possible Causes

We begin by identifying the disease conditions which have "unsound sleep" as a symptom.  Here are eight of many possibilities (more below):
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Vitamin D Need
  • PMS D
  • Copper Toxicity
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Chronic Fatigue-Fibromyalgia

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

We then identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
major fatigue for 3-12 months
unexplained sadness/crying
brittle fingernails
moderate unexplained weight loss
numb/burning/tingling extremities
high iodine consumption
alcoholism
regular sleep paralysis
somewhat disturbed sleep
abnormal taste in mouth
major joint pain/swelling/stiffness
history of hyperthyroidism
... and more than 120 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of unsound sleep:
Cause Probability Status
Insomnia 98% Confirm
PMS D 29% Unlikely
Anxiety 22% Unlikely
Vitamin D Need 2% Ruled out
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder 1% Ruled out
Hyperthyroidism 0% Ruled out
Chronic Fatigue-Fibromyalgia 0% Ruled out
Copper Toxicity 0% Ruled out
* This is a simple example to illustrate the process
