Cloudy Urine

What Causes Cloudy Urine?

Cloudy urine can have various causes, just like most other symptoms.  Finding the true cause means ruling out or confirming each possibility – in other words, diagnosis.

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • check your overall health status
  • let The Analyst™ find what's wrong
  • learn what you should be doing right now

Diagnosis is usually a complex process due to the sheer number of possible causes and related symptoms.  In order to diagnose cloudy urine, we could:

  • Research the topic
  • Find a doctor with the time
  • Use a diagnostic computer system.
The process is the same, whichever method is used.

Step 1: List all Possible Causes

We begin by identifying the disease conditions which have "cloudy urine" as a symptom.  Here are two possibilities:
  • Dehydration
  • Urinary Tract Infection

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

We then identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
dizziness when standing up
strong-smelling urine
blood in urine
insufficient water consumption
nausea for 1-3 months
vision disturbances
difficulty falling asleep
frequent daytime urination
frequent 'chills'
being very easily irritated
loss of appetite
frequent nighttime urination
... and more than 30 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of cloudy urine:
Cause Probability Status
Dehydration 91% Confirm
Urinary Tract Infection 61% Possible

Arriving at a Correct Diagnosis

The Analyst™ is our online diagnosis tool that learns all about you through a straightforward process of multi-level questioning, providing diagnosis at the end.

In the Urinary Symptoms section of the questionnaire, The Analyst™ will ask the following question about cloudy urine:
Is your urine cloudy?
Possible responses:
→ Don't know
→ No, it is clear
→ Occasionally slightly cloudy
→ Often slightly cloudy / occasionally very cloudy
→ Often very cloudy - as if a little milk was added
Based on your response to this question, which may indicate clear urine, cloudy urine or very cloudy urine, The Analyst™ will consider possibilities such as:
Dehydration

Yellow and/or cloudy urine may be evidence of a water intake deficiency.
