Level Of Perspiration

What Causes Excessive Sweating?

Excessive sweating can have various causes, ranging in severity from 'minor' to 'life-threatening'.  Finding the true cause means ruling out or confirming each possibility – in other words, diagnosis.

  • learn what you should be doing right now
  • have a doctor review your case (optional)

Diagnosis is usually a complex process due to the sheer number of possible causes and related symptoms.  In order to diagnose excessive sweating, we could:

  • Research the topic
  • Find a doctor with the time
  • Use a diagnostic computer system.
The process is the same, whichever method is used.

Step 1: List all Possible Causes

We begin by identifying the disease conditions which have "excessive sweating" as a symptom.  Here are eight of many possibilities (more below):
  • Low Estrogens
  • Stress
  • High Female Testosterone
  • Mercury Toxicity
  • Lymphatic Congestion
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • High Histamine
  • Adrenal Fatigue

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

We then identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
nausea for 1-3 months
tender muscles
strong appetite
recent job/career changes
frequent unexplained nausea
red palms/fingertips
moderate cold water fish consumption
being very skinny
elevated free T4
poor tolerance of heat
poor mental clarity
showers cause fatigue
... and more than 180 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of excessive sweating:
Cause Probability Status
High Female Testosterone 94% Confirm
Low Estrogens 19% Unlikely
Adrenal Fatigue 14% Unlikely
Mercury Toxicity 1% Ruled out
Stress 0% Ruled out
Hyperthyroidism 0% Ruled out
High Histamine 0% Ruled out
Lymphatic Congestion 0% Ruled out
* This is a simple example to illustrate the process

Arriving at a Correct Diagnosis

The Analyst™ is our online diagnosis tool that learns all about you through a straightforward process of multi-level questioning, providing diagnosis at the end.

In the Skin-Related Symptoms section of the questionnaire, The Analyst™ will ask the following question about level of perspiration:
How much do you perspire/sweat?
Possible responses:
→ Very little / not easily
→ Less than average
→ About average / don't know
→ More than average
→ Lots / easily / often and profusely for no reason
Based on your response to this question, which may indicate either diminished perspiration or excess perspiration, The Analyst™ will consider possibilities such as:
