Unexplained Daytime Sweating

What Causes Unexplained Sweating During The Day?

Unexplained sweating during the day can have various causes, ranging in severity from 'minor' to 'life-threatening'.  Finding the true cause means ruling out or confirming each possibility – in other words, diagnosis.

Diagnosis is usually a complex process due to the sheer number of possible causes and related symptoms.  In order to diagnose unexplained sweating during the day, we could:
  • Research the topic
  • Find a doctor with the time
  • Use a diagnostic computer system.
The process is the same, whichever method is used.

Step 1: List all Possible Causes

We begin by identifying the disease conditions which have "unexplained sweating during the day" as a symptom.  Here are eight of many possibilities (more below):
  • Stress
  • Kidney Disease
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Low Estrogens
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome
  • High Histamine
  • High Female Testosterone
  • Lymphatic Congestion

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

We then identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
lighter/paler skin color
being able to stay up late
dry eyes
frequent colds/flus
low lymphocyte count
cold sores
severe vision disturbances
refined sugar consumption
frequent nighttime urination
eating during sleep hours
not feeling injuries
good cold weather tolerance
... and more than 140 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of unexplained sweating during the day:
Cause Probability Status
Low Estrogens 99% Confirm
Kidney Disease 30% Unlikely
Lymphatic Congestion 27% Unlikely
High Female Testosterone 3% Ruled out
Stress 1% Ruled out
Guillain-Barre Syndrome 1% Ruled out
Hyperthyroidism 1% Ruled out
High Histamine 1% Ruled out
