Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

What Causes Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

To successfully treat and prevent recurrence of obsessive-compulsive disorder we need to understand and — if possible — remove the underlying causes and risk factors.  We need to ask: "What else is going on inside the body that might allow obsessive-compulsive disorder to develop?"

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • understand what's happening to your body
  • see your health summarized and in detail
  • identify any nutritional deficiencies

Accurate diagnosis of the factors behind obsessive-compulsive disorder consists of three steps:

Step 1: List the Possible Causative Factors

Identify all disease conditions, lifestyle choices and environmental risk factors that can lead to obsessive-compulsive disorder.  Here are three possibilities:
  • High Histamine
  • Low Serotonin
  • Tourette's Syndrome

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

Identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
occasional unexplained nausea
abundant saliva in mouth
hyperactivity
very strong sexual desire
frequent colds/flus
being a motivated person
good creativity/imagination
increased emotional instability
good cold weather tolerance
slender fingers and toes
poor tolerance of heat
major joint pain/swelling/stiffness
... and more than 10 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of obsessive-compulsive disorder:
Cause Probability Status
High Histamine 96% Confirm
Low Serotonin 12% Unlikely
Tourette's Syndrome 3% Ruled out

Arriving at a Correct Diagnosis

The Analyst™ is our online diagnosis tool that learns all about you through a straightforward process of multi-level questioning, providing diagnosis at the end.

If you indicate unusual mental conditions/symptoms, The Analyst™ will ask further questions including this one:
Have you had Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder / behavior (OCD)?
Possible responses:
→ Never had it / don't know
→ Probably had it/minor episode(s) now resolved
→ Major episode(s) now resolved
→ Current minor problem
→ Current major problem
Based on your response to this question, which may indicate either past obsessive compulsive disorder or obsessive compulsive disorder, The Analyst™ will consider possibilities such as:
Histadelia (Histamine High)

Histadelics are often prone to obsessions, compulsions, and addictions.

Low Serotonin Level

Although the exact cause is not known, experts believe that OCD may be caused by low levels of a chemical in the brain called serotonin.

Tourette's Syndrome

It is now recognized that obsessive-compulsive symptoms occur in about half of patients with Tourette Syndrome.  One informal survey of TS patients found that 72% (18 out of 25) had obsessive compulsive traits.
