Meniere's Disease

What Causes Meniere's Disease?

In order to deal properly with Meniere's disease we need to understand and — if possible — remove the underlying causes and risk factors.  We need to ask: "What else is going on inside the body that might allow Meniere's disease to develop?"

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • understand what's happening to your body
  • see your health summarized and in detail
  • identify any nutritional deficiencies

Accurate diagnosis of the factors behind Meniere's disease consists of three steps:

Step 1: List the Possible Causative Factors

Identify all disease conditions, lifestyle choices and environmental risk factors that can lead to Meniere's disease.  Here are five possibilities:
  • Poor Circulation
  • Food Allergies
  • Autoimmune Tendency
  • Hay Fever
  • Need For Dietary Improvement

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

Identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
anorexia
pain/burning behind breastbone
infrequent meal-induced pain
low fruit/vegetable consumption
dairy product consumption
eczema
frequent unexplained nausea
highly elevated eosinophil count
caffeinated soft drink consumption
spacey/unreal feelings
excess nose/throat mucus
soft drink consumption
... and more than 60 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of Meniere's disease:
Cause Probability Status
Autoimmune Tendency 99% Confirm
Food Allergies 26% Unlikely
Need For Dietary Improvement 0% Ruled out
Hay Fever 0% Ruled out
Poor Circulation 0% Ruled out
* This is a simple example to illustrate the process

Arriving at a Correct Diagnosis

The Analyst™ is our online diagnosis tool that learns all about you through a straightforward process of multi-level questioning, providing diagnosis at the end.

If you indicate ear/hearing problems, The Analyst™ will ask further questions including this one:
Have you suffered from Meniere's Disease (inner ear fluid imbalance / vertigo / tinnitus / hearing loss)?
Possible responses:
→ Never had it / not sure / don't know
→ Probably had it / minor episode(s) now resolved
→ Major episode(s) now resolved
→ Current minor problem
→ Current major problem
Based on your response to this question, which may indicate either history of Meniere's disease or Meniere's disease, The Analyst™ will consider possibilities such as:
Allergic Rhinitis / Hay Fever

Several studies have found a strong connection between inhalant allergies and Meniere's Disease.

Autoimmune Tendency

About 60% of patients with Meniere's disease are found to have antibodies for inner ear proteins.

Consequences of Poor Diet

Various dietary deficiencies can cause endolymphatic hydrops (excess fluid) in the inner ear.

Poor Circulation

Circulatory irregularities can cause excess fluid in the inner ear.
