Genital Sores

What Causes Genital Sores?

Genital sores can have various causes, ranging in severity from 'troubling' to 'life-threatening'.  Finding the true cause means ruling out or confirming each possibility – in other words, diagnosis.

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • understand what's happening to your body
  • learn what you should be doing right now
  • have a doctor review your case (optional)

Diagnosis is usually a complex process due to the sheer number of possible causes and related symptoms.  In order to diagnose genital sores, we could:

  • Research the topic
  • Find a doctor with the time
  • Use a diagnostic computer system.
The process is the same, whichever method is used.

Step 1: List all Possible Causes

We begin by identifying the disease conditions which have "genital sores" as a symptom.  Here are eight possibilities:
  • Candida / Yeast
  • Crohn's Disease
  • Chlamydia
  • Syphilis
  • Vitiligo
  • Herpes Simplex Type II
  • Gonorrhea
  • Psoriasis

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

We then identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
moderate unexplained weight loss
frequent red blood in stools
sugar/sweet craving
occasional mucus in stools
candidiasis
gallbladder attacks
significant mouth sores
irritated eyes
non-vaginal candidiasis
appendix removed before age 20
itchy skin
trace amounts of occult blood
... and more than 80 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of genital sores:
Cause Probability Status
Candida / Yeast 98% Confirm
Chlamydia 30% Unlikely
Herpes Simplex Type II 13% Unlikely
Gonorrhea 0% Ruled out
Vitiligo 0% Ruled out
Crohn's Disease 0% Ruled out
Psoriasis 0% Ruled out
Syphilis 0% Ruled out
* This is a simple example to illustrate the process
