Diffuse Bone Pain

What Causes Bone Pain?

Bone pain can have various causes, ranging in severity from 'worrying' to 'generally fatal'.  Finding the true cause means ruling out or confirming each possibility – in other words, diagnosis.

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • identify any nutritional deficiencies
  • learn what you should be doing right now
  • have a doctor review your case (optional)

Diagnosis is usually a complex process due to the sheer number of possible causes and related symptoms.  In order to diagnose bone pain, we could:

  • Research the topic
  • Find a doctor with the time
  • Use a diagnostic computer system.
The process is the same, whichever method is used.

Step 1: List all Possible Causes

We begin by identifying the disease conditions which have "bone pain" as a symptom.  Here are eight possibilities:
  • Bone Cancer
  • Vitamin D Need
  • Phosphorus Deficiency
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Chronic Fatigue-Fibromyalgia
  • Leukemia
  • Sickle Cell Disease

Step 2: Build a Symptom Checklist

We then identify all possible symptoms and risk factors of each possible cause, and check the ones that apply:
difficulty falling asleep
severe non-specific arm pain
somewhat disturbed sleep
being very easily irritated
eleven or more tender points
severe muscle weakness
low alcohol consumption
strong-smelling urine
moderately tight muscles
having poor posture
nasal congestion
occasional unexplained fevers
... and more than 70 others

Step 3: Rule Out or Confirm each Possible Cause

A differential diagnosis of your symptoms and risk factors finds the likely cause of bone pain:
Cause Probability Status
Leukemia 99% Confirm
Sickle Cell Disease 17% Unlikely
Osteoporosis 15% Unlikely
Chronic Fatigue-Fibromyalgia 1% Ruled out
Phosphorus Deficiency 1% Ruled out
Bone Cancer 0% Ruled out
Osteoarthritis 0% Ruled out
Vitamin D Need 0% Ruled out

Arriving at a Correct Diagnosis

The Analyst™ is our online diagnosis tool that learns all about you through a straightforward process of multi-level questioning, providing diagnosis at the end.

In the Skeletal Symptoms section of the questionnaire, The Analyst™ will ask the following question about diffuse bone pain:
Do you suffer from diffuse bone pain? In other words, vague bone pain that is impossible to pinpoint exactly? Do not include pain that is due to a known injury.
Possible responses:
→ Pain is due to an injury / don't know
→ No
→ Slight, not always noticeable
→ Significant or always noticeable
→ Severe
Based on your response to this question, which may indicate no diffuse bone pain, slight diffuse bone pain, diffuse bone pain or severe diffuse bone pain, The Analyst™ will consider possibilities such as:
Bone Cancer

Diffuse bone pain can be caused by a diffuse cancer.  Pain usually results when a tumor pushes on bones, nerves, or other organs in the body.

Leukemia

Bone pain, especially in the legs, can be a sign of ALL, CML, or hairy cell leukemia.
