Catalase is one of the most potent catalysts known, hence its name. The reactions that it catalyzes are crucial to life.
Catalase catalyzes conversion of Hydrogen Peroxide, a powerful and potentially harmful oxidizing agent, to water and molecular oxygen (metabolic products which the body can use.) Catalase also uses Hydrogen Peroxide to oxidize toxins including Phenols, Formic Acid, Formaldehyde and Alcohols. It is an antioxidant.
