The oil of borage (Borago officinalis L.) seeds has become popular because of its high content of GLA (gamma linolenic acid).
Borage oil is usually supplied in a 1000mg soft gel capsule; the oil filled capsule is usually dark amber or is sometimes opaque to prevent light from spoiling the oil.
Borage oil contains 17-25 % GLA, 38% linoleic acid, 14-23% oleic, 11% palmitic acid and 5% stearic acid.
Most often, borage oil is consumed for its GLA content, which has been shown to be useful against such things as atopic eczema, premenstrual syndrome, diabetes, inflammation, heart disease and stroke.
