Second-Hand Smoke Exposure

Evaluating Risk Factors: Secondhand Smoke

Evaluating your likely current (and near future) state of health means taking into account the risk factors — such as second-hand smoke exposure — that affect you.   Our medical diagnosis tool, The Analyst™, identifies major risk factors by asking the right questions.

Diagnose your symptoms now!
  • understand what's happening to your body
  • learn what you should be doing right now
  • identify any nutritional deficiencies
If you indicate exposure to hazardous substances, The Analyst™ will ask further questions including this one:
Secondhand smoke. Within the last 8 years, roughly how much time have you spent in smoke-filled environments? Heavy exposure is defined as being in a room with visible smoke/haze for more than 4 hours per day.
Possible responses:
→ Don't know
→ None / minimal
→ 1-4 years of light exposure
→ 5-8 years of light exposure or 1-4 years heavy
→ 5-8 years of heavy exposure

The Diagnostic Process

Based on your response to this question, which may indicate little/no secondhand smoke exposure, secondhand smoke exposure or much secondhand smoke exposure, The Analyst™ will use differential diagnosis to consider possibilities such as:
Hearing Loss

According to one study, smoking or exposure to cigarette smoke can be linked to an increased risk of hearing loss.  The study also suggests that non-smokers who live with smokers are almost twice as likely to have hearing loss as those not exposed to smoke at home.
