Menstruation

Definition of Menstruation:

The periodic discharge of blood, tissue fluid and mucus from the endometrium (lining of the uterus) that usually lasts from 3-5 days although 2-7 days is quite normal.  It is caused by a sudden reduction in estrogens and progesterone.  The first day of menstrual flow is considered day 1 of the menstrual cycle.
